Slapjack Tutorial

Needed

52 card deck; two or more players

Deal

Players are dealt one card at a time until all the cards have been dealt. It is okay if some players have one more card than others.

Players keep their cards face down in a pile.

Objective

The objective of the game is to be the first player to win all the cards.

Game Play

The game begins with the player left of the dealer flipping the top card from his/her pile into the middle. Play moves clockwise to the next player who does the same. The game play should be at a fast pace.

Once a jack is flipped up into the middle, it can be slapped. The first player to slap the jack gets to keep the entire middle pile. The middle pile is shuffled into the players existing pile, and that player starts the new middle pile.

If a player runs out of cards, he/she gets one more chance to slap and win back cards. If a jack is played, and the player with no cards is not the first to slap the pile, he/she is out of the game. If a player mistakenly slaps the pile while having no cards left, he/she is out of the game.

Winning

Once a player has all 52 cards, he/she wins the game.

Rules

  • If a player slaps the middle without a jack on top, that player gives one card from his/her pile to the player that played the top card.

  • If a card is played on top of a jack before it is slapped, the jack is missed, and play continues.
